Spray Foam – Opinion

Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF) is the best insulator on the market. It air-seals and vapor-blocks while maintaining an industry leading R7 per inch.

SPF is no longer the environmental hazard it once was. HFO (Hydrofluoroolefin) blowing agents have replaced the previous HFC blowing agents. HFO’s have a global warming potential below 1 (similar to fiberglass insulation), compared to 14,800 for HFC-23, which is now banned in SPF in the United States.

SPF with HFO blowing agents is considered low VOC (volatile organic compound) and only off-gasses during spraying and curing, which is complete within a few hours of installation.

Cured SPF is inert, with no smell and no off-gassing. SPF horror stories often stem from uncured product, which is rare today due to modern spray equipment that prevents off-ratio applications. As long as the liquid product is not expired and environmental conditions are not extreme, SPF will fully cure.
