Room Framing – Overview

It’s time to frame the interior room, which will become the bathroom, the kitchenette, and the upper sleeping area. That involves the following:

  • Framing the walls
  • Plumbing the vent pipe
  • Framing the upper floor
  • Installing the shower
  • Building the water heater shelf
  • Installing the upper subfloor

Much of the lumber has already been cut in the Prefab chapter. Now, it’s time to assemble the lumber and construct the room.

A note on the steel cantilever: Although it is shown in this chapter, the weldment is no longer required due to a design change that allows traditional lumber joists to replace it.

A one-piece shower stall is an excellent, code-compliant, easy-to-clean option. It must be brought into the room before completing the framing, as it won’t fit through the bathroom door opening.

Expect to spend ~3 weeks doing the work outlined in this chapter.
