Acrylic – Overview

It’s time to install acrylic (plexiglass) coverings over the windows.

This is an optional step for adding privacy and protection to the windows. Simpler privacy solutions exist, but finishing the windows in this chapter involves the following:

  • Cutting wooden trim
  • Installing the acrylic
  • Installing the window buck trim

6 mm (1/4”) acrylic with a light textured P95 surface was chosen for its strength and light diffusion.

The dome windows could have been ordered with frosted glass, which may have been the better solution. The acrylic has the added benefit of acting as a third pane, providing a minor efficiency improvement while also protecting the direct-set window glass from inside damage.

The downside to the acrylic coverings is that they are expensive and more prone to scratching.

Expect to spend ~1 week doing the work outlined in this chapter.
