Kitchenette – Overview

It’s time to rough-in the kitchenette, which involves the following:

  • Hanging the upper cabinets
  • Securing the countertop
  • Installing the sink
  • Fitting the utility doors
  • Paneling the back wall

An off-the-shelf laminate countertop was chosen because it matched the future floor perfectly and was the ideal size, requiring no cuts to fit. Wood paneling was used for the back wall to match the other walls.

This kitchenette is optimized for a short-term rental. For long-term living, consider adding a cooking exhaust fan, installing a backsplash, and replacing the lower-left cabinet with an all-in-one clothes washer/dryer.

Expect to spend ~2 weeks doing the work outlined in this chapter.
