A close-up view of the plumbing in the Mini Dome.

Plumbing – Overview

It’s time to rough in the plumbing, which involves the following:

  • Running tubing to all fixtures
  • Installing the water heater
  • Connecting to the water supply

Expansion PEX is used because it’s flexible and easy to work with, has full-flow fittings that match the tubing inner diameter, and the material resists kinks, freeze damage, corrosion, and scaling.

To reduce in-wall connections, each fixture will have its own dedicated tubing, a layout known as home run plumbing.

Fixtures that need plumbing:

  • Water heater
  • Sink (in kitchenette)
  • Toilet
  • Shower
  • Hose bib (optional)
  • Fire sprinkler (optional)

To avoid dead legs in the plumbing, finalize the fixture count and match it to the number of ports on the hot and cold water manifolds.

Expect to spend ~2 weeks doing the work outlined in this chapter.
